Poland in EU's structure  

History of diplomatic relations between Poland and EU has already counts over 16 years.

Benefits flowing from existing contacts are streaming business exchange, politically and economic stabilization. Polish economy has proceeded in last years many dynamic changes. Due to that our country has become one of faster developing in Europe.

EU is Polish priority business partner. Integration with EU requires constant maintained of economic reforms’ direction. An important aspect of reforms is regularization of economic law and continuation of possesional transformation, organizational and restructuring.

Polish way for European Community (EU):

  • September 1988 – it was made first diplomatic contact with European Economic Community (EEC); it was concerning commerce agreement and economic cooperation
  • 14-15 July 1989, Paris – decision of G7’s group (seven the most industrialized states of world) about conceding of economic assistance for Poland and Hungary for restructure those economical systems. Coordination of this equipment has been entrusted commission of European Community.
  • July 1988, Brussels –a diplomatic agency was opened at European Communities by Poland.
  • 19 September 1989, Warsaw –an agreement between Poland and European Communities regarding commerce, economic and business cooperation was signed there.
  • 25 may 1990, Brussels – deposited by Poland of official conclusion about beginning of convention’s negotiation about association with European Community.
  • September 1990, Warsaw – creation office Commission European Communities in Poland
  • 16 December 1991, Brussels – agreement establishing association between Poland and European Communities and those states-members was signed there
  • January 1993, Warsaw – governmental document “Activities’ adapting Polish economy and law system for European Agreements Program” was made
  • 21-22 June 1993, Copenhagen – decision of capability to approach into EU states from Central and Eastern Europe was made
  • 8 April 1994, Athens – depositing by Poland of conclusion about our membership in EU.
  • 8-10 December 1994, Essen – EU’s document „ pre-member strategy” which precised priority in range of conformity candidates’ law system into EU’s
  • 26-27 June 1995, Cannes – „White Book” in range of integration associated countries with EU’s homogenous market was made
  • 8 August 1998, Warsaw – acceptance appointing European Integration Committee (called KIE) which was responsible for process of Polish integration with EU. Office of plenipotentiary of government endures in questions of European integration simultaneously and foreign aid.
  • 3 June 1997, Warsaw – acceptance national strategy of integration which has defined basic tasks and institutions of their introduction by the ministers’ cabinet
  • 15 July 1997, Warsaw – ministers’ cabinet accepted the activities schedule of adjusted polish system to “White Book”
  • 16 July 1997, Strasbourg – presentation by European Commission of opinions (so called “Avis”) about conclusions of associate countries from regarding membership in EU.
  • 13 December 1997, Luxembourg – decision of European Council about beginning associate process with eleven states (Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Poland, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Hungary) and about beginning of negotiation with five countries of Central and Easter Europe – Czech Republic, Poland, Estonia, Slovenia, Hungary and with Cyprus state (so called “5+1” or Luxembourg group).
  • 9 march 1998, Brussels – presentation of schedule of fitting operations for individual sectors of homogeneous market by European Commission.
  • 31 march 1998, Brussels – during officially Polish inauguration accession intergovernmental conference have started process of negotiation about our membership in EU.
  • June 1998, Warsaw – “National Preparation for Membership Program” was . accepted by the ministers’ cabinet
  • 1 September 1998, Brussels – presentation first negotiation positions by Poland in areas: “science and research”, “education and young peoples”, “industrial politics”, “small and medium enterprises”, “common foreign policy and safeties”, “telecommunication and information technologies”, “culture and audiovisual politics”.
  • 10 November 1998, Brussels – beginning negotiation with six states of Luxembourg group.
  • March 1999, Berlin – acceptance and regarding EU’s expansion conditions in range of financial and time frame.
  • December 1999, Brussels – completion folding negotiation positions by candidate states
  • December 1999, Helsinki – demarcation by European Council “Road Map of Negotiations”
  • 2000, Nice – acceptance treaty which defined institutional solutions for preparing EU for expansion
  • 15 November 2001, Warsaw – acceptance European Polish government’s strategy which confirmed Poland determination for obtainment of membership in EU in 2004
  • 13 December 2002, Copenhagen –
  • 16 April 2003, Athens – signed Accession Treaty which defining conditions Polish approach in EU.
  • 7-8 June 2003, Poland – referendum about accession our country into EU; over 72% voting Polish have been told behind approaching for EU.
  • 1 May 2004 – obtainment by Poland of membership in EU’s structure.
